COMMUNITY ASSISTS IN THE ARREST OF RAPE SUSPECT

On Saturday evening, detectives from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Criminal Investigation Division (CID), prepared an affidavit for an arrest warrant for Nick NEELEY Jr.  The charge was for rape, a Class Y felony.

Working around the clock, members of the SCSO searched areas where NEELEY was known to frequent.

On Monday morning, information was received that NEELEY was in the area of the 500 block Atkins Road in Avilla.  NEELEY fled on foot and could not be located.

Yesterday evening, a citizen in the Avilla community notified law enforcement that a subject matching the description of NEELEY was seen in the area of the 500 block of Atkins Road.  Several law enforcement agencies converged on the area, to include: SCSO, Arkansas State Police, Little Rock Police Department, and the United States Marshal Service.  It was quickly determined that the subject matching the description of NEELEY had fled into a wooded area on foot.

A perimeter was established and K-9 dogs from the Arkansas Department of Corrections responded to the area.  With the help of community members alerting law enforcement of suspicious activity in the wooded area near their homes, Nick NEELEY Jr. was arrested without incident.

Sheriff Rodney Wright would like to thank the members of the Avilla community for being proactive in assisting the SCSO, as well as the other law enforcement agencies, over the past 48 hours.

NEELEY will have a bond hearing on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00 am.
